Enhancing Otsego’s Water Quality: Recent and Upcoming Filtration Projects

Ensuring access to clean and safe drinking water is a priority for the City of Otsego. To address this, the city has undertaken significant projects to enhance water quality through advanced filtration systems.

Completion of Well House #4 Filtration Project

In April 2026, Otsego completed improvements at Well House #4, located adjacent to the Riverwood National development at 10000 90th Street. The upgrades include the installation of filtration devices designed to remove iron, manganese, and radium from the water supply. Additionally, the project features a standby emergency generator, a backwash recovery system, and enhanced monitoring capabilities. These enhancements aim to improve drinking water quality, increase operational efficiency, and bolster the resilience of the city’s water system. Funding for this project was provided by Environmental Protection Agency Community Grants, the Minnesota State Revolving Fund, Minnesota Emerging Contaminants Grants, and water rates.

Upcoming Well House #3 Filtration Project

Looking ahead, Otsego plans to commence construction improvements at Well House #3 in the fall of 2026, with completion anticipated by the summer of 2028. Situated in the Kittredge Crossing Development, across from Kaleidoscope Charter School, Well House #3 will receive similar upgrades, including filtration devices to eliminate iron, manganese, and radium. The project will also incorporate a standby emergency generator, a backwash recovery system, and monitoring capabilities. These improvements are expected to further enhance drinking water quality and strengthen the overall water infrastructure. Funding sources mirror those of the Well House #4 project.

These initiatives reflect Otsego’s commitment to providing residents with high-quality drinking water and maintaining a robust and efficient water system.
